ACUUS 2027, as one of the oldest and most influential international academic conferences in the field of underground space, serves as a core platform for the convergence of global wisdom. The conference takes the full lifecycle of underground space as its main thread and establishes ten core topics. Topic 2 — Strategic, Resilient Underground Planning and Governance, focusing on the top-level design and long-term planning for the development of urban underground space.
Topic Spotlight #2
Strategic, Resilient Underground Planning and Governance
As urbanization enters a new phase of “stock optimization” and “quality improvement,” cities are confronted with the dual pressures of resource constraints and safety risks. Underground space has evolved from a mere auxiliary layer of the city into a strategic resource that shapes mobility, resilience, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
This sub-theme focuses on how to develop underground space in a coordinated, sustainable, and resilient manner while balancing economic growth, infrastructure upgrades, environmental protection, and public interests. The congress will systematically explore an integrated planning framework for above-ground and underground space, centering on two main threads: enhancing the resilience of existing facilities and developing deep underground space with resilience. The goal is to provide comprehensive solutions for the long-term development and management of underground space.
We look forward to engaging with scholars in the field of underground space to jointly explore resilient planning for underground space development. We cordially invite scholars, researchers, and industry practitioners from home and abroad to submit papers on the various thematic topics of the conference. Each of your submissions serves as a building block for the resilient future of global cities.
